Virgin Media Television presents Sharp Shorts in association with Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland

Virgin Media Television in association with Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland has launched Sharp Shorts – six brand-new shorts which are available to view for free on Virgin Media Player.

Supporting talent development for the Irish film & television industry, Virgin Media Television commissioned the content in partnership with Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland.

The shorts are premiered  in the Lighthouse Cinema, Dublin, and well known faces were spotted on the night including former Ireland soccer player Tony Cascarino who stepped out with his wife Jo, as well as Actor Stephen Cromwell, Andy Byrne.

The following  available to watch:

‘Cascarino: Voices’ is a sports documentary in which Tony Cascarino reflects on the increasingly toxic nature of ‘punditry’ and ‘armchair punditry’, having experienced it as a player in the papers and seeing current players experiencing it through social media.

Produced by Anna Mannion; Producer & Screenwriter from Sligo. She set up Tri Moon Films in 2019, with a focus on creating Irish content for the international marketplace.

‘One More’, a fictional story which follows a night out in Dublin; Ryan goes for one pint and ends up having a lot more. He meets a potential ‘life partner’ in Kayleigh before running into his past. Two roads lie ahead; one home, the other unknown, he takes the latter heading for one more.

Written & directed by Colin O’Donnell, a comedy drama writer for theatre, including the hilarious ‘Coppers Uncovered’ which enjoyed sell out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe and in Dublin.

Told in an art-house Lynchian style, the drama ‘Postpartum’ deals with the ugly side of motherhood in an abstract way.

Written & directed by Tania Notaro an award-winning actor & screenwriter. A trained actor from Bow Street Academy, a rising star in Irish film.

An authored documentary, ‘L.I.F.E. (Live it fully every day)’, showcases the challenges that people with disabilities face on a daily basis without access to a Personal Assistant.

Self-directed by Daniel Airey as an inspiring young filmmaker and disability activist. He also co-producer and co-presenter of the award-winning Dan and Darragh Do Ability Podcast

‘When Horses Run’ is the second sports documentary featured. Utilising new research and a unique fly-on-wall mixed media approach, it explores the psychological and physiological effects of race riding on professional jockeys.

Directed by Dale Leadon-Bolger, a filmmaker and actor. He is a graduate of the Bow Street Academy for Screen Acting and the National Film School, IADT, where he was awarded the Student of the Year in Screenwriting Award.

In a world full of misinformation, it’s hard to find the clear answers. ‘Now you Know’ poses the burning questions of the Irish public to the doorstep of the experts across five episodes.
