TV comedy Damo & Ivor set for the big screen

Hit TV comedy Damo & Ivor is like going to be made into a movie, like, and yiz are gonna bleedin luv it!

The popular RTE show is set to hit the big screen next year, with production set to start later this summer.

The satirical comedy, which first appeared on YouTube and RTE’s Republic of Telly back in 2011, follows the lives of identical twins who were separated at birth.

One of the lads, Damo, is left to grow up on the mean streets of Dublin, while the other, Ivor, is given a life of wealth and luxury in Dublin’s affluent Foxrock by parents who shower their son with money and little else.

Andy Quirke, who plays both Damo and Ivor, will star in the feature-length film, which sees the pair head off on a road trip in search of another brother they never knew they had – John Joe.

The comedy duo have a huge online following and have achieved over 8 million views on YouTube, two hit TV series on RTE Two, four top 10 singles including ‘Everybody’s Drinkin’ and ‘Big Box Little Box’ and a top 10 album also.

Actor/writer/creator Quirke said of the upcoming movie: “With a fan base as big as this I really feel it will break some records! I can’t wait for the fans to come on this next part of the journey.”

Rob and Ronan Burke, who directed the second series of the show, will be at the helm for the feature film.

They said: “We are beyond excited to be directing Damo & Ivor The Movie.

“It is a hilarious script that brings these characters to the big screen in a big way.  The fans will not be disappointed, it’s gonna be whopper!”

The film is a co-production between Parallel Films and Blue Ink Films and is being produced by Quirke and Ruth Carter with Alan Moloney as executive producer.

The film has the backing of the Irish Film Board, RTÉ and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.

Damo & Ivor The Movie will be released in Irish cinemas in 2018.
