Virgin Media has released its top 20 most watch programmes of 2022 and live Rugby is top of the list, as the broadcaster is set to achieve a historic record Share of Viewing for 15–44-year-olds of 17%.
The most watched programme of 2022 was on 12th February when Ireland played France in their opening game in the ‘Guinness Six Nations’, as Andy Farrell’s men lost for first time in ten matches after a determined effort at the Stade de France.
13 out of the top 20 most watched programmes across Virgin Media Television in 2022 were live sporting events, including four ‘Guinness Six Nations’ games, three ‘Autumn International Series’ games with Ireland v South Africa coming in as the third most watched programme of the year as Ireland beat the Springboks 19-16 in a closely contested match between the world’s number-one ranked side and the reigning world champions.

Three ‘UEFA Champions League’ games made the list with the ‘UEFA Champions League Semi-Final’ first leg between Liverpool and Villarreal coming in at No 12 as Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Villarreal with an own goal from Pervis Estupinan and a Sadio Mane strike.
Real Madrid v Man City comes in at No 14 on 4th May as Manchester City claimed a slender advantage in their ‘UEFA Champions League Semi-Final’ against Real Madrid after a dramatic 4-3 victory at the Etihad Stadium.
The fifth most watched programme of 2022 was the opening episode of the long running reality show ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ that aired on 6th November as the programme returned to Australia after being hosted in Wales the previous two years.

‘The Masked Singer Final’ comes in at number nine on 12th February which saw Australian singer Natalie Imbruglia unmasked as Panda and crowned champion of the singing competition.

Live horseracing comes in at number ten with the ‘Grand National’ on 9th April in Aintree Liverpool as Noble Yeats won the race, with final odds at 50/1. The ‘Cheltenham Gold Cup’ also features on the list at No 16 on 18th March.

Viewers favourites ‘Gogglebox Ireland’ comes in at No 18 as Ireland’s most loved TV critics shared their viewers and opinions of the best and worst of TV.
The biggest dating show of the summer ‘Love Island’ had the nation hooked and was the most streamed show of 2022 on Virgin Media Player. With over 14 million streams across all platforms, Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti were crowned the winners and took home the £50,000 prize.
