Special Olympics Ireland was delighted to partner with Universal Pictures to host a preview screening of Champions at the Light House Cinema, ahead of its release in cinemas across Ireland this Friday.

Guests in attendance included Special Olympics athletes from clubs and services who attend weekly trainings run by volunteers.

“As an organisation that uses sport to change lives, we love the message behind Champions. This year marks 20 years since the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games came to Ireland. Seeing athletes represented on screen as individuals who live enriching lives; who work, study and train like everyone else is proof of how much society’s perception has changed over time. It’s our mission to keep spreading this message, week in, and week out in communities across Ireland” – said Matt English, CEO Special Olympics Ireland.

Champions, starring WoodyHarrelson is a hilarious and heart-warming story of a former minor-league basketball coach who, after a series of missteps, is ordered by the court to manage a team with intellectual disabilities. He soon realizes that despite his doubts, together, this team can go further than they ever imagined

Special Olympics athletes and other young people with intellectual disabilities star alongside Woody Harrelson in Champions includingMadison Tevlin as Cosentino, Joshua Felder as Darius, Kevin Iannucci as Johnny, Ashton Gunning as Cody, Matthew Von Der Ahe as Craig, Tom Sinclair as Blair, James Day Keith as Benny, Alex Hintz as Arthur, Casey Metcalfe as Marlon, and Bradley Edens as Showtime.
