Once again the Oscars threw up a number of surprises with the Road drama Nomadland proving itself the big winner on the night.

It took home the  Best Picture, Best Director for Chloé Zhao and Best Actress for Frances McDormand.

There was a shock in the Best Actor category, as  the award went to Welsh actor Anthony Hopkins and not the late Chadwick Boseman, who had been hotly tipped to be honoured posthumously. Hopkins didn’t attend and was at home for the announcement.
