Focus Ireland’s annual Rock Against Homelessness event, hosted each year in the beautiful 3Olympia venue in the city’s Temple Bar, is taking a different direction this time around as Lyra is signed up to curate a stellar, extended line up.

The 29 year old from Bandon in County Cork is a rising star of the Irish pop scene, and headlined the 3Olympia with her own show as recently as November of last year.

Like that show, Lyra will headline the Focus Ireland event, with a host of local stars to appear beneath her in a lovely evening of music that will be presented by former Love Island host Laura Whitmore, who is appearing as the evening’s MC.

The eighth Rock Against Homelessness show will take place on May 26th, with tickets priced at a bargain €27 and on sale by the time this column goes to print. These events, plus other similar ones, have raised a total of nearly €200,000 over previous years for Focus.

Alongside Lyra, other acts to appear include major-label rising star Aimee, Toshin, Pastiche, Bobbi Arlo, Jack O’Rourke with former Fight Like Apes frontwoman and Other Voices presenter MayKay, and Isaac Butler.

Lyra said of the gig “You would think in 2023 we would be able to provide people with a basic human right, the right to safety and security. Many a night I have walked through the streets seeing people sleeping in doorways trying to protect themselves from the harsh Irish weather and wondered where is the help? Thank God for charities like Focus Ireland as without them, I fear the worst. We as a nation need to be the voices for our fellow human beings who have lost everything.”
