Jazzy, an Irish-Jamaican DJ previously best known for her work with ‘Belters Only’ has launched debut single ‘Giving Me’ to extraordinary acclaim in recent weeks, flying up to number one on the Irish Spotify Charts ahead of the likes of Ellie Goulding and Calvin Harris.
‘Giving Me’ is, she says “about me relinquishing the responsibility for the hurt experienced from a past relationship and getting myself back out there,” and it’s clearly connected with a lot of people, as she’s become the first Irish female artist to hit number one on that particular chart.
“I started my music journey when I was 9,” she says. “In the primary school I went to, they have an amazing music programme where every child got the chance to learn a stringed instrument, I joined the orchestra and learned to play violin, I went on to do all my grades and even went back to be an assistant violin teacher, somewhere along the way I also joined the choir and fell in love with singing.”
“Working with Belters Only, and the reaction to the songs we created together has given me so much confidence in myself. Going on tour with them has helped me to come out of my shell and readied me for the next steps of my career. Big up Belters Only!”
“I’ve been in the studio so much behind the scenes and doing a full live set is something I am working towards,” she continues. “There’s a lot of music coming your way! My plans are to stay in the studio as much as possible, do gigs and festivals, and deliver as many bangers as possible this summer!” Given her huge early success, it’s clear that Jazzy is already well on that road.
