Friends of Suicide Loss (FOSL) are asking for your support as they host the International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day or Survivor Day as it is also known. The “Mourning Has Broken” commemorative walk will be held on November 18.
Every year hundreds of events take place throughout the world to mark this day of reflection and remembrance, connection and healing.
In 2023 there are 304 events held in 20 different countries around the world. FOSL have introduced its ‘’Mourning Has Broken’’ commemorative walk and associated events into Ireland since 2018, to mark this occasion with its own unique event for its members while integrating with others bereaved by any personal loss who are equally welcome to participate.
Proceedings will kick off at 1:30 p.m. with those taking part to meet at The Spire, O’Connell Street, from where walkers will make their way to Clontarf Castle carrying a ‘candle of hope’ specifically made for this occasion.
The walk from The Spire and commemoration at the castle from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. is free and includes inspirational talks, readings, lighting of candles and letting off balloons. The evening event at the castle which begins at 6 p.m. is €100 and includes dinner, music and live entertainment up to 11.30 p.m. FOSL will also hold a number of raffles and draws on the day with some great prizes to be won, suitable for all the family. An entertaining and special evening is anticipated for those who attend. Those bereaved from any circumstances besides suicide are welcome to integrate with us on the day and join in the proceedings.
If you are bereaved by suicide and need support or know someone in need of support, please contact Friends of Suicide Loss through their website www.fosl.ie. They are also on Facebook under Friends of Suicide Loss and on Twitter @foslireland.
This unique service includes outreach support to your home or wherever you are most comfortable to meet, one to one support and specialized support groups ranging from the recently bereaved, transition groups, unique group to group support and long term bereavement support groups, specialised workshops, pamphlets, literature and books for members.
