Dublin City Council is launching a range of brand new ‘Dublin Winter Lights’ installations at Merrion Square Park. The latest addition to the city’s festive illuminations will run on the following dates in Today to Sunday next and 5 Thurs Dec 9 to  Sun Dec12 and Thurs Dec 16 – Wed Dec 22.

The project will see one of Dublin’s most beloved parks reimagined as a mesmerising winter wonderland with a variety of LED-powered animations. One projection will even include an interactive element, allowing the artwork to come to life in new and exciting ways. The park will also boast a 15-metre-high illuminated Christmas tree.

Visitors are encouraged to keep an eye out for a number of exciting characters, who can be spotted at various locations throughout the park. One of Merrion Square’s best-known residents, Oscar Wilde, will also be participating in the festivities. Stop by his statue to see the writer recite some of his most famous lines. Top the journey off with a hot chocolate before exploring the other lighting installations around the city.

Speaking about the launch, Lord Mayor of Dublin, Alison Gilliland, said: “I am delighted to be launching this spectacular new addition to the ‘Dublin Winter Lights’ festival. It will be fantastic to see Merrion Square Park, one of our city’s leading green spaces, transformed by these magnificent illuminations. These installations will undoubtedly be great fun for all of the family and will certainly provide some most welcome end-of-year festive cheer.”

In order to attend this event, visitors must register for a free ticket using Eventbrite. It is important for ticket holders to arrive at the park during their allocated time-slot, as they may not be guaranteed entry otherwise. Tickets are limited to a maximum of six per person. Entry will start from 5pm, with the last admissions at 9pm.
