Dublin is a vibrant city with something always going on – whether you’re a fan of music, the theatre or history, you’re covered. Dublin Gazette have rounded up some of the best events coming up in the city next week.
Spinoff 2018:
Colleges from across the country will come to Dublin on March 1st to compete in the annual Spinoff; the National Student DJ Competition.
Hosted by Dublin DJ Marcus O’Laoire, nine colleges from around Ireland will take part in the 12th Spinoff in Wah Wah Club.
Dublin will be represented by DJs from DIT and DCU, with colleges from Galway, Maynooth, Belfast and Limerick also taking part.
DJ Spinoff will take place on March 1st.
DJs will play 15 minute sets, and will be judged by three of the top players in the Irish and international dance industry – Sunil Sharpe, Kaily and Dean Sherry. Belfast producer Bobby Analog will be headlining the night.

Alternative Sunday Social Club:
A series of gigs will kick off in Toners Pub on Baggot Street this Sunday, with the aim of bringing ‘bands back’ to the area.
Call Girl, a guitar pop band from Dublin, will take to the stage in Toners at 4pm. Over the next few months, the Alternative Social Sunday Club will host gigs from a number of artists to promote live music on Baggot Street. Acts like The Outcasts, Francie Conway, Strand and Blood or Whiskey are all set to take part.
Details of all gigs will be posted on Alternative Sunday Social Club’s Facebook page ahead of each show.
Vinyl & Wine presents Purple Rain:
An event will be held for lovers of wine and Prince this Sunday.
The event will see Prince’s legendary album, Purple Rain, played on ‘high quality vinyl’ on a ‘spectacular’ sound system in the intimate surrounds of The Liquor Rooms on Wellington Quay.
Following a play-through of the album in full, there will then be a panel discussion on the production of the 1984 classic album by Prince.
Taking place from 5pm to 7:30pm, tickets are available now from Eventbrite, priced at €12 to €33.
New Voices in Women’s History:
New Voices in Women’s History at Dublin City Library
With 2018 seeing the centenary of women securing the vote, Dublin City Library are hosting a series of events to commemorate this critical moment in Irish history.
This Saturday, a seminar will take place at the Dublin City Library and Archive on Pearse Street, highlighting historical research being carried out by a ‘new generation’ of scholars. It will explore topics such as literary salons in 18th Century Ireland, Military service and Irish female veterans, fashion for girls at Irish boarding schools and the culture of the Suffrage movement.
Running in three sessions, the event will begin at 10am, with the last session starting at 1:20pm.
