BORD GÁIS ENERGY THEATRE is thrilled to announce a schedule of spectacular shows set to take centre stage for the new 2023 season. Audiences can look forward to smash-hit West End and Broadway musicals, some unmissable dance and opera productions, one-night wonders, and the return of family favourites featuring a sprinkling of Disney magic!
Setting the bar for the new season ahead is the beloved BEAUTY AND THE BEAST which has been re-designed and reimagined and will wow audiences with its spectacular effects, performances, and iconic songs until 8 January 2023!
Also in January, and for the first time in its 100-year history, the acclaimed ESTONIAN NATIONAL BALLET- will come to Dublin from 11- 15 January to perform the world’s most loved ballet; SWAN LAKE. Accompanied live by the Irish National Opera Orchestra, the season is strictly limited to seven performances.

In February Bord Gais welcomes back two heavyweights from the musical theatre genre – Richard O’Brien’s THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW will be performed from 30 January to 4 February, and this will be followed by Willy Russell’s emotionally charged, legendary tale of BLOOD BROTHERS from 07 -18 February. Rounding off the month will be Michael Flatley’s iconic show LORD OF THE DANCE which joins us for a very limited run from 23 to 25 February 2023.
From 05 -11 March IRISH NATIONAL OPERA presents DER ROSENKAVALIER – Richard Strauss’s indulgently Viennese celebration of the extravagant lifestyle of a bygone age! Featuring a trio of leading Irish opera stars Celine Byrne, Paula Murrihy, and Claudia Boyle
Also in March, one of the greatest stage and screen actors, Sir Ian McKellen as you’ve never seen him before! The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter star will wing his way to Dublin from 22 to 26 March, alongside comedian John Bishop for the hilarious MOTHER GOOSE! UK audiences are already flocking to see this theatrical feast – full of fun, farce, and surprises that will make you honk out loud.


From 28 March to 01 April, sees another Irish premiere –From the imagination of Neil Gaiman, best-selling author of Coraline and The Sandman (now a major Netflix series), comes National Theatre’s major new stage adaptation of THE OCEAN AT THE END OF THE LANE. This five-star spectacular from the producers of War Horse and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a thrilling adventure of fantasy, myth, and friendship, taking audiences on an epic journey to a childhood once forgotten and the darkness that lurks at the very edge of it.
In April, back due to popular demand, two international hit musical shows. The Tudor Queens turned Pop Princesses and the Winner of the 2022 Tony Award for ‘Best Original Score’ and ‘Best Costume Design’ SIX makes a royal return from 04 -08 April. SIX is followed by another all-queens affair, the black comedy rock musical based on the 1988 film of the same name – HEATHERS THE MUSICAL which plays from 25 April to 06 May.

The month of May will see two more exciting new productions; Who lives in a pineapple under the sea and became the hottest star on Broadway? Why it’s SpongeBob SquarePants! And now he’s ready to ride the wave to Dublin to entertain and delight audiences in the brilliant, bright, and possibly bonkers SPONGEBOB THE MUSICAL from 09-13 May. Based on the Sunday Times bestseller which inspired one of this century’s most treasured films, THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL plays from 16-20 May and will take us on a journey to India with an eclectic group of British retirees as they embark on a new life, star casting for this show is to be announced!
May ends with TV dancing sensation and international champion JOHANNES RADEBE, hosting a party like no other on 28 May with his electrifying brand-new production FREEDOM UNLEASHED. The dance theme continues into June with two iconic musical films making the leap from screen to stage. Directed by Craig Revel Horwood, STRICTLY BALLROOM: THE MUSICAL from 12-24 June follows an arrogant, rebellious young ballroom dancer (Kevin Clifton) in this feel-good musical based on the Baz Luhrmann film.

Get set for a thrilling new production of the musical which is regularly voted the greatest of all time- WEST SIDE STORY which joins us for two weeks from 12 to 24 June. An international creative team has been assembled around the New York-based director Lonny Price for this remake of the iconic classic, which comes to Dublin as part of a world tour commencing in Germany later this year.
A classic of the golden era, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s THE KING AND I will return to Dublin following its critically acclaimed sold-out season at The London Palladium from 27 June to 01 July. Two Strictly Come Dancing favorites – judge ANTON DU BEKE and 2021 champion GIOVANNI PERNICE will join forces for their spectacular – HIM & ME tour which comes to Dublin for one night only on 23 July. A true dance extravaganza for all ages.
In July, Disney’s iconic WINNIE THE POOH, Christopher Robin, and their best friends Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Rabbit, and Owl (oh… and don’t forget Tigger too!) have come to life in a beautifully crafted musical stage adaptation for shows across the 28 to 30 July. Featuring the Sherman Brothers’ classic Grammy Award-winning music with further songs by A.A. Milne, this beautiful fresh stage adaptation is told with stunning life-sized puppetry.
Based on real people aboard the most legendary ship in the world, TITANIC THE MUSICAL returns on 31 July to5 August. This stunning and stirring show focuses on the hopes and dreams of her passengers. The original Broadway production won five Tony® Awards including Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book.
Another musical extravaganza for big kids and little kids alike SHREK THE MUSICAL plays from 14 to 20 August – join our unlikely hero Shrek and his noble steed Donkey as they embark on a big, bright, musical adventure! Featuring the beloved Princess Fiona, the evil Lord Farquaad, a host of magical fairy-tale characters, and fabulous songs.
The family fun continues from 29 August to 03 September, and you can bet your bottom dollar that fans of one of the world’s most loved musicals ANNIE will be delighted with the latest star cast announcement. The man who made Lily Savage a star, actor and comedian PAUL O’GRADY will play the spiteful Miss Hannigan!

In September the kids will go back to school and it’s time for well-deserved gals’ and guys’ night out! The stage phenomenon DIRTY DANCING returns from 4 – 16 September. The breath-taking romantic thriller THE BODYGUARD featuring a whole host of classic songs made famous by the one and only Whitney Huston, returns from 18 to 23 September.
From 28 September until 11 November sees the return of Disney’s THE LION KING, a musical phenomenon which has been seen by more than 100million people around the world and has played on every continent except Antarctica!
Of course, as well as the best stage productions we also look forward to hosting some amazing one-night shows including Bord Gáis Energy Theatre regulars CELINE BYRNE and her annual CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION on 5 December and TOMMY FLEMING presents his 30th Anniversary tour on 12 March. Iconic traditional rock group MOVING HEARTS AND THE RTÉ ORCHESTRA are all set to raise the roof for two St Patrick’s Day special performances on 17 and 18 March. And American rockers DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE visit on 19 March as part of their European Asphalt Tour. And we are delighted to announce, for the first time, the legendary DANIEL O’DONNELL will grace the stage on 27 August.
Bord Gais Energy Theatre will play host to some special non-musical events including DOIREANN GARRIHY presenting her podcast LAUGHS OF YOUR LIFE LIVE for two dates on 12 and 13 April.
Football fans are in for a night of unbiased banter with the UNDR THE COSH LIVE on 21 April and Liverpool legend KENNY DAGLISH LIVE takes to the stage June 4, while Canadian astronaut and ex-commander of the International Space Station, CHRIS HADFIELD, is set for a mind-expanding evening of exploration, imagery, stories, and music on 25 June 2023.
Expect strong language, revelations and opinions from Bafta Wining actor, MIRIAM MARGOYLES LIVE on 30 October.
