Summer Streets sees foot fall on George’s Street

The dlr ‘Summer Streets’ initiative is continuing with the proposal to pedestrianise George’s Street Lower in Dún Laoghaire, for a period between the 5th of July and the 30th of September, writes Amy Rohu.

The strategy also hopes to create a more people-friendly environment with programmed events and activities for families, children and in particular, older people with the addition of age-friendly seating.

Speaking about the proposal, An Cathaoirleach Una Power said: “This initiative is a significant step in opening up our County for an outdoor summer. We can provide this space for people and businesses to thrive after what has been a difficult year. I am looking forward to experiencing the new street-scape and seeing everybody there.”

The aim of the initiative is it help hospitality businesses facilitate outdoor dining, as well as retail businesses who may require queuing systems.

It also hopes to entice people back into Dún Laoghaire by proving a safe and welcoming environment for all.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Co Council are inviting suggestions from residents, businesses and community groups in the area and encourage those with comments to get involved in the public consultation currently taking place for the next two weeks.
