CUALA’S juvenile girls section enjoyed a successful weekend, winning three trophies in venues around Dublin.
First up were the Under-14s who contested the Division 3 shield final against a strong Thomas Davis side who were playing on their home turf.
The Cuala girls led from the beginning and enjoyed a comfortable lead at half time. Thomas Davis fought back bravely in the second half but could not catch up on a strong team performance.
The Under-13 girls played in their first championship final at C level and continued the winning run.
Playing in windy conditions in Trinity Gaels, they beat a strong Naomh Barrog team 4-2 to 2-1, with Sinead Wylde awarded the player of the match award.
With two trophies secured, eyes turned to the Under-15s who were contesting the Division One shield final in Phoenix Park.
The team did not disappoint and, in a thrilling encounter with Good Counsel, they came out winners on a scoreline of 4-2 to 1-8, a particularly sweet outcome given the side had only risen to Division 1 status this year.
Earlier, the club’s minor girls reached the final of the minor development league to show the strong form throughout Cuala on the camogie circuit.
Elsewhere, Cuala’s minor footballers continued their runs in both the Minor A and B championships, making it through to the semi-finals of their respective competitions.
For the As, they were 1-14 to 0-7 winners over Ballymun Kickhams while the Bs overcame Ballyboden St Enda’s 3-16 to 2-9.
On an impressive weekend all round, the club’s senior footballers were grateful to an incredible quartet of goals from Mark Schutte to see them through to the last four of the Dublin senior B football championship.
At the end of normal time, their game with St Mary’s Saggart was locked at 2-6 to 1-9. Schutte though struck two more majors to eventually see his side pull away in the second period of extra time on a final score of 4-10 to 1-11.
