Garda cuts blamed for sharp increase in theft

There has been a spike in theft in the Dublin North area according to recent reports.

Figures from the Fingal Joint Policing Forum shows a 22% increase in theft from last year in Malahide and Swords.

The figures follow a report of the Fingal Joint Policing Forum (JPF) outlining crime statistics in the area from January 1 until August 31, 2013.

According to the figures, there were 27 incidents of theft from a person in 2013, compared with 22 incidents during the same period last year, showing an increase of 22%.

Theft from MPVs (or mechanically propelled vehicles) increased by a total of 20% in 2013. There were 275 incidents of items being stolen from cars this year, compared to 228 in the same period in 2012.
