FORMER Bluebell United player Keith Fahey has completed his signing for Shamrock Rovers from St Pat’s Athletic, making the move shortly after the Richmond Park side secured the FAI Ford Cup for the first time in 53 years with victory against Derry City.
The 31-year-old midfielder will be a part of the Hoops set-up that will contest the 2015 season, and expressed his pleasure at signing for the Tallaght side.
“I’m delighted to be here at Shamrock Rovers. This is my local club and it’ll be great to be playing so close to home.”
Fahey will shortly link up with Pat Fenlon’s side as they prepare to improve on last season’s League Of Ireland performance which saw them finish a creditable fourth behind St Pat’s.
“It’s good to have the signing done at this early stage. I’m going to go away now and enjoy the break and have a holiday and then I’ll look forward to linking up with the squad here and getting into pre-season and the new campaign ahead.”
Fahey played for Bluebell United after making his return to Ireland from Britain where he moved after starting his playing career in Dublin with Cherry Orchard. He was a youth level player at Arsenal for two years before making the move to Aston Villa
Fahey played in the LSL before graduating to the League of Ireland, lining out for both St Pat’s and Drogheda Athletic before returning to England and the Premier League where he became a firm fixture at Birmingham City, where he helped the Blues promotion push to the Premier League in 2009, as well as being part of the team who delivered City the 2011 league cup title after defeating Arsenal in the final.
He returned to Ireland and St Pat’s, scoring the goal that netted them the first FAI President’s Cup in March this year against Sligo Rovers, before being part of the side who won the FAI Ford Cup in October.
Fahey also boasts 16 international caps, and scored his first goal in green in the match against Armenia in Yerevan in 2010.
