Westmanstown Bowling Club hosted the National Bowling Championships last week, with semi-finals played from Monday to Thursday, then the 14 finals played on Friday and Saturday.

The high quality bowls matches, featuring bowlers from many Irish clubs, attracted over 100 spectators every evening.

The winner of the blue ribbon, top level singles event was Andy O’Keefe from CYM BC, who received his trophy from the Junior Minister for Sport, Jack Chambers.

The Minister also took the opportunity to try the sport of bowls himself, and he proved to have a natural talent as he bowled into the jack.
