Malahide United 0 – Waterford United 6

BY ROBBIE O’NEILL

Waterford United booked their place into the FAI Cup quarter-finals with a brillant display at a very warm Gannon Park on Saturday.

The League of Ireland First Division side took the lead on the seventh minute, a Shane Griffin lob beating a stranded McNulty in the

Malahide goal after a through ball from O’Keefe.

A much fitter Waterford side, who sit third in the Division 1 table, kept up the pressure and it paid off when Idowu found himself with lots of space before fireing home from 15 yards.

Wassim Aouachria (above), who caused Malahide problems all evening, got on the scoresheet to make it three with just 16 minutes gone he slotted home after a Colm Deacy error.

McNulty in the Malahide goal did his best to keep the score down, making a number of great saves, but Waterford kept coming and just before the break Phoenix Patterson, who was in the thick of things all evening, made it four just before the break

Waterford kept up the same pace early second half Griffin and power going close from set pieces, but it was power again who popped up to make it five on the 69th minute tapping home a cross.

Aouachria then closed the show just before the final whistle scoring from a power cross to make it six, completing a great week for Waterford after Fleetwood Town owner Andy Pilley took over the club.
