A strong second-half performance at packed out Somerton Park saw hosts Castleknbock hold off Clontarf by the minimum to claim the Dublin U-16 ‘A’ title last Saturday.
Both sides started well but hard to separate, with a point between them through out the first half. Clontarf were awarded and scored a penalty on the stroke of half time to lead 1-4 to 0-4 at the break.
In the second half, the Somerton men, fought hard to reduce their lead and defended well to keep the Clontarf men to score just a single point in the 11th minute of the second half.
A tense game with mistakes by both sides, saw Castlknock just a point behind as we reached the end of normal time.
Two minutes into additional time Castleknock drew level with a free from Lenny Cahill. Just a minute later, Castleknock were awarded a another free and Cahill scored to give his side the lead and a well deserved victory to add their Division 1 league medals.
