Tridents flying on all fronts

Tridents Basketball Club’s teams have stormed back from the Christmas break with a series of superb wins.
In Senior 1 action, Tridents followed up on their pre-Christmas road victory over Liffey Celtics with a thrilling overtime win at home at ITB.
The game was close from the opening tap and regulation time ended with the team tied at 54-54. After an exciting and high scoring five-minute overtime period, Tridents came away with the victory by a score of 70-67.
The Senior 2 team resumed its schedule by beating previously unbeaten UCD by a score of 40-34. In a nice balanced attack, the team was led by Carol McDaid’s 14 points along with six points by Laura O’Hare and Alanna McGurk and five points contributed by Treasa Madigan. McGurk was a strong force on the boards, collecting 14 rebounds while the entire team defence helped to stop UCD’s offense.
Tridents Division 5 Ladies came away with an important win after a very tight encounter at home versus first place Ongar Chasers this week.
Tridents went into half-time with a 24-14 lead after a first half that saw Tridents reaping the rewards from the free throw line. Tridents victory can be largely attributed to massive contributions at both ends of the court from both Helena O’Connell and Ali Davis.
O’Connell provided 14 points and nine rebounds with Davis chipping in with 11 points and 15 rebounds. The final score was 40-32.
Also, Tridents’ Under-18 team continued its winning streak with their third and fourth wins in a row as they beat previously unbeaten Malahide by a score of 34-30 and then followed that with a win over first place Wicklow.
In the Malahide game, the team fought back from a nine-point deficit and secured the victory by outscoring Malahide by 17-4 in the last period.
The team was led by Ciara Mulligan with 11 points and Sarah Bateman with 10 points. Asiya Gaizauskas had a terrific game on the boards with 11 rebounds. They followed this up with a convincing win over Wicklow by a score of 53-25. Mulligan and Bateman again put in the star performances in offence while Asiya Muassaam was steadfast on defence and rebounding.
Tridents Under-13 team continued its success in Division 1 with a 39-31 win over DCU Mercy. The game saw Tridents take a 10 point lead but then Mercy coming back to tie the score in the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw Tridents storm back led by Laura Guiney who had 10 points in the game with Elise and Freya Reilly each contributing six points.
