Sporting groups in Dublin South Central will receive funding of €183,044 for various types of equipment which will benefit their members and athletes alike, Fine Gael Senator Seery Kearney has said.

Senator Seery Kearney welcomed the allocations made today to the groups through the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme (SCEP).

Senator Seery Kearney said “Today we have the largest ever allocation of grants nationwide for equipment under the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme.

“These clubs are at the heart of our communities and any help they receive is a greatsource of support to local teams and sportspeople and to boost participation in sport.

“This funding will benefit six clubs in Dublin South Central. Active engagement in sports not only helps keep people healthy, but it also builds confidence, independence and promotes team building.

“The Dublin South Central.projects to benefit are:

  • Ballyfermot BMX Club €35,305
  • Crumlin United FC €42,575
  • Kevins Hurling & Camogie Club €52,577
  • Mourne Celtic Drimnagh €6,178
  • Mourne Celtic FC €7,600
  • St Catherine’s Boxing Club €4,087

The allocations announced under the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme are in response to equipment-only applications which sporting organisations submitted.

“The Sports Capital and Equipment Programme (SCEP) is the primary vehicle for Government support for the development of sports and recreation facilities and the purchase of non-personal sports equipment throughout the country.

“It is welcome news that work will now begin on assessing the capital applications with the allocations to be announced later in the year.

“It is crucial that we invest in sport for the overall health and wellbeing of our population and that is why this programme is so important as it delivers stronger communities,” Senator Seery Kearney concluded.
