Over 2000 participants from 102 clubs right across Ireland, including 14 from Dublin converged on Naomh Mearnóg GAA Club in Portmarnock for the Annual All-Ireland Lidl Gaelic 4 Mothers and Others Blitz on Saturday.
Fun was the name of the game, with a festival atmosphere for the event which has grown from strength to strength in recent years, with the Blitz completely recreational, and involving those who want to play Ladies Gaelic Football fun.
It was a day for participation rather than competition, with no scores recorded in any of the games, and a real ‘Family Day Out’ feel to proceedings.
Host club Naomh Mearnóg, along with neighbours St. Sylvesters took place, with clubs from right across the capital involved.
Erins Isle Finglas; Scoil Uí Chonaill, Foxrock Cabinteely, Ballyboden St. Enda’s, Beann Eadair, O’Dwyers, Whitehall Colmcille, St Peregrine, Templeogue Synge St., Ballymun Kickhams, Skerries Harps and Kilmacud Crokes also took part in a brilliantly organised event.
While there was plenty of skills on show on the pitch, there was also plenty of activity off it, with the 2fm Roadcaster present, while the Ultrasound Band and DJ had the entertainment flowing right into the evening.
A large exhibition village included a stand from sponsors Lidl who had fun and games for all the family.
The day began with a signature ‘Mass Warm Up’ from Bokwa Fitness Ireland getting everyone pumping before the games got underway just before lunchtime.
