Usher Celtic 3

Malahide United 1

A sprinkling of international class helped Usher Celtic register another cup upset last weekend.

It wasn’t quite Bray Wanderers or Drogheda United in the Leinster Senior Cup but Charlie Cahill Cup victory over Malahide United was impressive nonetheless.

The Leinster Senior league second tier habitants knocked the top flight side out of the competition to reach the quarter finals.

The victory came courtesy of goals from their amateur Internationals Jordan Buckley and Jimmy McHugh. The business partners have formed a working relationship on the pitch since McHugh arrived from Oliver Bond and Usher profited from at Grange Gorman last weekend.

McHugh opened the scoring in impressive fashion and proceeded to double the lead as Usher put one foot in the next round.

Recent LSL Senior Sunday title winner’s Malahide United did pull one back but former LSL Junior Footballer of the Year Buckley made sure of Celtic’s progression when he restored the two-goal cushion.

The victory sets up a mouthwatering quarterfinal clash with high flying Seniro Sunday outfit Lucan United.

Darragh Lynch hit a hat trick for Wayside Celtic as they avoided falling by the Charlie Cahill Cup wayside in the competitions other game this week.

Lynch accounted for three of his sides five goals as Celtic won away to Arklow in the last 16. Darragh O’Connor and an OG accounted for the other efforts in a win that set up a quarter final clash with cup specialists Skerries Town.

The quarter final line of the other side of the draw has yet to be decided with Crumlin United and Killester Donnycarney yet to play and St Mocthas still to face off against St Patricks CY.

Ballymun United secured their quarter final slot last weekend and await the winner of Kilnamanagh versus Glebe North.
