Captain McCarthy offers Dub fans early Christmas present with hint that he will soldier on in Blue DUBLIN captain James McCarthy has strongly suggested that he will lead Dublin into 2024.

McCarthy took part in a charity soccer game in aid of Breast Cancer Ireland over the weekend, turning out for Shelbourne Legends against Killester Donnycarney.

Asked about the potential pursuit of a 10th All-Ireland medal afterwards in an interview broadcast by the soccer blog ‘Striker Online’, McCarthy left the door open for it.

“You’d have to give it a crack, don’t you I suppose? We’ll give it a belt and see what happens,” he said.

McCarthy had suggested immediately after the All-Ireland final win over Kerry last July that “this wouldn’t be a bad way to wrap it up,” a suggestion that a ninth All-Ireland medal, won as captain, would be the perfect departure point.
