Spot-on Gareth McCaffrey sent reigning champions St Moctha’s back to the top of the Senior Sunday pile last weekend.

The former League of Ireland striker converted his second and third penalties of the season at Porterstown Road as the hosts defeated Wayside Celtic.

Last season’s Senior Sunday top scorer’s goals gave Mochtas a two-goal half-time cushion Celtic couldn’t overturn. A brilliant headed finish from a  Darragh O’Connor gave Wayside hope but they couldn’t find an equaliser and Brian McCarthy’s men took all three points to return to the summit.

Mochtas’ rise to the top was helped by a brilliant performance from fellow Saints, St Francis on Sunday.

The John Hyland Park side travelled to Cellbridge where they defeated high flyers Lucan courtesy of a double from the always dangerous Niall Lanigan.

The newly promoted side move as high as fourth courtesy of the win.

The side that came up as LSL Senior Sunday 1 Champions moved as high as second after they accounted for Killester Donnycarney at home on Friday night.

Deric Hyland, Eamon Mulligan and Clayton Maher all on target for Ross Carrig’s men in a 3-1 win, Robert Dunne was on target for Killester.

Loyal servants Conor Riddick and Mark Sandford both netted as Liffery Wanders made prolonged their unbeaten run to three games to move out of the relegation zone.

While Home Farm’s hot shot Shane Lyons and Tolka Rovers Ryan Harte shared strikes in the weekend’s only top-flight draw.
