Lucan United are number 1 at Christmas and go into 2024 as Senior Sunday front-runners after St Mochtas were held to a draw in the final round of fixtures

The Saints twice came from behind in midweek action against Crumlin United to secure a share of the spoils, a Mikey Scott finish and a late late Karl Somer strike canceling out  Daniel Dobbin’s double.

However, that wasn’t enough to send them to the summit going into the winter break. That honour belongs to Lucan, who are a point clear of the reigning champions with two games in hand.

The County Dublin side have never won the Intermediate top flight but are certainly part of a title race going into the new year.

Promoted sides Kilbarrack United and St Francis are also within touching distance of the top and also have games in hand over Mochtas.

Ross Carrig’s Kilbarrack sit third four points off top spot, while John Hyland Park side Francis are a point and a place further back after they defeated Bangor Celtic in their final game of the year.

The victory, Francis’ fourth in five games, came courtesy of Sean McManus third and fourth goal of the season and a Stephen Dunne finish.

The midtable sides Wayside Celtic, Bangor, Malahide United and Tolka Rovers all have games in hand and could move upward with a good run but equally could find themselves drawn toward the relegation trapdoor in a tight league.

SIdes with recent success previous Killester Donnycarney, Maynooth University Town and Bluebell United currently populate the bottom three, although there are only five points between seventh and bottom.

Usher Celtic lead the way in Senior Sunday 1 ahead of Glebe North and St Patrick’s Athletic. The Grange Gorman side are undefeated in 10 league games this term.

Only a point separate leaders Collinstown and Inchicore Athletic at the top of Senior Sunday 1A with the likes of Templegoue United, Castleknock Celtic, St Kevins Boys and Dublin Bus all in the promotion hunt.

Hartstown Hunstown and St Pauls Artane look certs to come up from Senior 1B, both on 27 points seven clear MPC in third and 10 clear of Blackrock in fourth.
