Inchicore Athletic 2

Ayrfield United 3

There was a sense of woe within the wild celebrations as Ayrfield United won a entertaining FAI Intermediate Cup third round tie in the most dramatic of fashions.

Danny Hickey’s scored a 94th minute winner to spark emotional scenes. The substitute ran to the crowd to the share the moment with the younger brother of Dylan Maher, his close friend who passed away recently.

The goal was fitting ending to an extremely entertaining match and send the LSL Senior Sunday xx side into the last 16.

The away side took the lead in spectacular fashion Conor Young volleying into the top corner from 18 yards.

United took that lead into the turn but Inchicore turned the tie around with a bright start to the second half. Shane Hyland leveled on the hour when he fired home near post from a tight angle before Larkin gave the hosts the lead 10 minutes later thanks to a brilliant individual run and finish.

Momentum swung back the way for Ayrfield when Inchicore had a player sent off – and they took full advantage.

Louis Franzoni leveled the back and fort affair with a one touch cushion volley teeing up Hickey to score the dramatic winner.

It was Deano on the double as Ballyfermot won another third round Dublin derby. United killed off Kilnamangh’s FAI Intermediate hopes thanks to two goals from Dean Henderson.

Collinstown also progressed as they defeated last season’s surprise package Skerries in another five goal thriller.
