ATHLETICS: Race firmly established as biggest Irish road race

The 2024 AXA Raheny 5 – The 40th AXA Raheny 5 take place on Sunday January 28.

The AXA Raheny 5 returns for its 40th edition celebrating firmly established as the most prestigious race in the country.

“It is with great excitement we look forward to the 40th AXA Raheny 5 on its traditional date in the last Sunday in January” said AXA Raheny 5 race director Dae Hooper.

“To celebrate 40 years is an achievement we are very proud of. To be regarding as the best road race in the county is an achievement we could not have dreamed of 40-years ago” added Hooper.

With Just two weeks to go, a record field is expected in Raheny on January 28.

40th AXA Raheny 5 Launch

The AXA Raheny 5 is firmly established as the biggest road race in Ireland and has already attracted a high-quality field with the members of the Irish men’s and women’s 2024 Olympic Games teams already entered.

2023 champion, Ryan Creech is set to defend his crown as Creech continues his search to make the 2024 Olympic marathon.

While a brand new women’s champion is expected to be crowned joining a list of European and World medallists such as Catherina McKiernan, Fionnuala McCormack and Mary Cullen.

While the race will see the best of Ireland’s distance runners, a big crowd of different levels is expected. All finishers will receive the famous AXA Raheny 5 plaque.

The main race gets underway at 3pm sharp but is now supported by the biggest children’s race card on Irish roads.

The first of five children’s races get underway at 1.30pm building up to the main event at 3pm.

For the 22nd year in a row, Raheny Shamrock has partnered with Raheny hospice as their official charity partner. In previous years, fundraising has raised approximately €10,000 per year for the hospice.
