St Oliver Plunkett/Eoghan Ruadh manager John Murphy got one over his brother Donal in the Cuala banisteoir bib as the Ashtown club won the We Are Dublin Senior 2 Camogie Championship Final 4-8 to 3-8.
In a helter-skelter start, Jody Couch’s goal put Plunkett’s in front with Rebecca Keating chipping in, too, before Cuala answered by scoring two points with Blaithin Lane and the influential Sinead Wylde doing the honours.
Wylde’s battle with Aisling Carolan was a feature and Cuala closed the gap further when Jennifer Dunne scored their third point in succession.
It began a good run of scores with Juilette O’Flynn pointing and then and a goal from Wylde punishing a series of Plunkett’s wides.
Plunketts switched things up by putting Niamh Donlon into the middle which had an instant impact as the next few scores came from Plunketts, namely a 45 converted from their captain Carolan and a goal in the 23rd minute from, Aoife Bugler.
Cuala started the second half well with great pressure that resulted in their second goal to ratchet up the tension.
Wylde tacked on another two frees to her tally but Plunkett’s began to open up in the final quarter and soon Bugler shook the next off the back of Couch’s approach work for a commanding lead.
Wylde and Couch traded points before Wylde slammed home a penalty and it was followed by a deft flick to the net to leave two points in the difference going into injury time. But Bugler scored a point in the 33rd minute of the half to kill off their hopes.
