Lucan stun Ballymun to reach last four

BRENDAN GALLAGHER was the hero for Lucan Sarsfields as his injury-time point saw his side to a famous victory over holders Ballymun Kickhams and into a first Dublin SFC semi-final since 2011.

The Lucan stalwart and former Leitrim county star held his nerve with what proved to be the last kick of the game to secure a semi-final date with St Jude’s in Parnell Park on November 6. “It’s a brillint feeling. There was talk coming into the game that Ballymun weren’t playing well, but when the big teams get out of the group and it’s knockout it’s a different ball game,” a delighted Lucan manager Dave Cullen told Dubs TV.

“Ballymun showed their class after the water break, we had a six-point lead and they pulled it back. We knew we were gonna be up against a really seasoned team. We had a decent league campaign, and our aim was to get out of the group. And once you’re out of the group, you have to believe. And we showed a good bit of belief out there today.”

St Jude’s saw off Thomas Davis to book that date with Lucan, where Tom Lahiff was man of the match for the Tymon Park side.“

They gave us a bit of a pasting in the league over the summer, so we knew we were gonna be up against it, and it’s a good local rivalry,” said Lahiff. “We’re a very fit team and we needed that today.

”Kilmacud’s bid for an historic football and hurling double also remains alive after the Stillorgin giants overcame Division 1 league champions Na Fianna. “It was an incredible game, and we were just blessed to get over the line in the end,” said man of the match Kilmacud Rory O’Carroll.

But over the line they got, and their reward will be a clash with southside neighbours Ballyboden St Enda’s.Ballyboden put in arguably the most impressive performance of the quarter-finals, seeing off Castleknock by 2-17 to 1-11.
