Oliver Bond Celtic’s Leinster Senior Cup clash with Clonmullion FC had a bit extra about it. Both sides went the extra mile in extra-time as they fought for their place in the second round of the cross-league and cross-grade competition.

However, after 20 minutes more action-packed than a Die Hard boxset, it was the Dublin side who go the extra step in the tournament and could get the chance to test themselves against League of Ireland opposition.

The Intermediate newbies and the Athy sides couldn’t be separated after a dull and uneventful 90 minutes but the game exploded into life in extra time with five goals.

Just three minutes after the sides turned around for the second time Irish Amateur International Jimmy McHugh finally broke the deadlock.

The winger then appeared to have settled the tie in Bond’s favour when, two minutes later, he doubled Alan Reilly’s side’s advantage.

Troy Carey then made it three and it looked as if the Senior Sunday 1B leaders would finally get to ease their way into round 2. However, the Kildare side astonishingly battled their way back into contention. Two goals in quick succession meant the OBC had to navigate a tense final minutes before going through. the line.
