Na Fianna land big blow with win over Davis

Na Fianna recorded an impressive 3-13 to 1-16 win over AFL Division 1 league leaders Thomas Davis at Kiltipper Road last weekend to give their survival hopes a much-needed boost.
The Glasnevin outfit went into the game having lost their midweek tie against St Jude’s but showed great fighting spirit to secure just their second win of the league campaign.
Tomas Brady. pictured, and Glen O’Reilly were the two stand out performers for Na Fianna with tallies of 2-1 and 0-5 respectively.
Thomas Davis went into the game as the form side with five wins and a draw from their opening seven games to leave them at the summit of Dublin football, and it looked like another win could be on the cards when Chris Galvin opened the scoring for them early on.
Na Fianna responded, however, with points from O’Reilly and Carl O’Connor before Davis replied with a goal from Paul Hudson.
It was a blow for Na Fianna but they hit back in perfect fashion with a point from O’Reilly that was followed up by Odhran O’Maoileidigh palming the ball into the back of the net for three points.
Davis kicked the next two points before déjà vu struck once again for the home side with an O’Reilly point preceding a goal from Brady.
The two teams then exchanged points to leave Na Fianna taking a 2-5 to 1-4 lead into the break.
Davis made three changes at half-time and managed to score the first two points of the second half through Cian Murphy and Shane McGrath.
Seven points were racked up between the two teams before Brady struck Na Fianna’s third goal of the game.
A frantic end to the game saw both sides point regularly but Na Fianna did enough to hold on for the win.
