Danny Hickey and Colm Shanahan were very different kind of Lummy Cup hat-trick heroes for their clubs over the weekend.
The Ayrfield United and Kilmore Celtic players both hit trebles to help their respective teams progress to the next round of the Leinster Senior League cup competition.
Hickey’s three goals were massively crucial as they completed a comeback while Shanahan’s were part of one-sided Celtic win.
Ayrfield found themselves confronted with the exit door, trailing by two goals to Rush Athletic as early as minute 37, only for a quick-fire brace from Hickey to see them level by the break.
Hickey completed the comeback in style as he found the bottom corner from 25 yards after a set-piece delivery into the box eventually fell at his feet.
Shannan’s three goals accounted for half of the Senior 1B side’s Lummy Cup haul. The Intermediate newbies put six past to Dunboyne without response to move into the next round, a double from Intermediate football’s top scorer Michael McCabe and a Mervin Mambo effort completing the scoring .Ballyfermot United progressed thanks to a two-goal win over Templeogue United FC, Finglas United turned on the red light and stopped Dublin Buses cup progress after a 3-0 victory, while St Kevins exited after defeat to Dunboyne. Inchicore Athletic suffered a similar fate after defeat to Lexilip United and Dublin University AFC beat Hartstown Huntstown in the same competition.
