Kilnamanagh Athletic 2 – Liffey Wanderers 2
by Jonny Stapleton
Kilnamanagh Athletic took one on the chin for the first time this season and couldn’t maintain their 100 per cent record in front of watching pro boxer Francy Luzoho.
The fighter, known as ‘The Butcher Boy’, and footballing royalty in the form of rapper JyellowL, whose track ‘Ozone’ features on Fifa 2020, were in attendance as the Tallaght side, who seem to have hit cheat mode early doors, dropped points for the first time this term.
The Dublin 24 outfit went into their Sunday clash with Liffey Wanderers on the back of huge wins over two of last season’s title challengers, Killester Donnycarney and St Mochta’s – and they looked on course for a third straight win, as goals from xx and xx saw them come from behind to lead going into the final 15 minutes.
However, Anthony Purdy headed home from a corner to level matters and ensure the Dublin sides shared the Sunday morning spoils.

The Kilnamanagh faithful and new manager Conor Kenna won’t be too disappointed, particularly when they look at the opening week as a whole.
The side who need a late run of games to survive last season have started this season on fire and are top of the pile at this early stage despite being handed a difficult start.

Deco Hevey’s Wanderers are also undefeated after the opening week but are still searching for their first win after score draws against Killester and Kilnamanagh.
Reigning champions, Crumlin United also kicked off the new campaign with a draw, goals from Lee Whelan and Lee Duffy saw them come from two down against newly promoted Gelbe North.
St Mochtas and Killester both bounced back from defeats to Kilnamanagh to register first wins of the season on Sunday. Killester overcame Bangor Celtic by the odd goal in three thanks to goals from Ryan Robinson and Mick Kelly.
Last season’s LSL Player of the year Gareth McCafferty scored his first hat trick of the season as Brian McCarthy’s Saints beat newly promoted Ballymun United 3-1.
