ROC Celtic wish there had of been a Mike drop at the SDFL Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The UCFL side could have done with Collinstown FC dropping Mikey Griffin ahead of their cross-league FAI Junior Cup clash.

The long-serving Collinstown front man put in a star performance as the Major Saturday 1A leaders progressed to round 2 of the prestigious cup competition with relative ease.

The Clondalkin side showed no mercy against their Ballyfermot counterparts – who populate UCFL’s Division 1 – and put five past them in the first round tie.

Griffin put Collinstown firmly into progression pole early on, as he ensure the home side came out of the blocks firing at the SDFL Complex.

The tall and skillful striker converted a penalty after just four minutes and doubled the advantage midway through the first half, pouncing on a defensive error to finish emphatically.  By half time it was three as Kian Delaney rounded the visiting keeper to all but wrap up the tie before the turnaround.

To their credit, a depleted ROC did come out fighting after the break but they found themselves further behind on 55 minutes as Delaney scored his second, latching onto a rebounded

Griffin shot to make it four.

Graham Griffiths did manage to put a ROC name on the scoresheet and reduced the deficit but Collinstown finished the game as they started it, finding the back of the net.

Callum Browne made it a five star performance benefiting from some fine Delaney work to round off the rout.

“It was a tough game. They are a credit to themselves, they put it up to us and made it tough,” Browne told the

UCFL site.

“I was happy with the performance, happy with the two goals and hopefully we can kick on and go further in the competition,” Griffin said after the game.

Elsewhere, Damien Duff’s (inset) Shelbourne’s Extra.ie FAI Cup semi-final clash has been confirmed for Sunday, October 16, at 4.45pm and the game will be screened live on RTE Two.
