Brandon Geoghegan made sure a fight with his best friend wasn’t for nothing by claiming the Irish title at the National Stadium on Saturday.
The European Schoolboy medal winner defeated Ritchie Gentle in a tense 52kg National Boy 4 Championship decider at the home of Irish boxing to become a four time Irish champ.
The win came a week after the Tallaght native defeated close pal and regular sparring partner Christian Doyle in the semi final.
Geoghegan, who has been winning medals at national and international alongside Geoghegan over the years, found himself in the same weight class as his pal going into the latest National Championship instalment and was drawn against him the semis.
The pair put their friendship aside for nine minutes and went into battle, a battle Geoghegan won en route to more domestic success.
Geoghegan wasn’t the only Sacred Heart winner on an action packed day of deciders.
Harley Salinger continued his dominance at 36kg with another Irish title win for the Tallaght Club, while Abbey Molloy claimed 43kg success.
Isabel Nolan won Santry’s third junior title over the last few weeks beating Kathleen Ward to become a two time Irish champion at 45kgs.
Robyn Carlyle and Joseph Mihai pushed Crumlin’s 2023 Irish title total toward 10 with their respective Boy and Girl 4 Championship wins.
Carlyle increased her title haul to four, while Mihai came through six fights to win his first Irish title, defeating two Irish Champs along the way.
Jason Whelan added to Dublin Docklands impressive underage innings as he beat Eddie Harty to claim 60kg honours, while Anjolia Maughan of Whitechurch and Avona’s Rocco Dempsey increased the number of Dublin winners.
