Clondalkin Celtic – 0

Balscadden – 3

Forget coats of arms, Balscadden are armed with a Coates who helped fire them into the next round of the Polikoff Cup.

Regular goal-getter Paddy Coates hit a last 16 treble to fire the LSL Premier

Sunday side into the quarter-finals of the cup contest last Friday.

Coates accounted for all the goals against Clondalkin Celtic at the Coldcut, claiming hero status once again for the Northside outfit.

The hat-trick was the number 9s third of the season and his second in two weeks – he also took the match ball home after finding the net three times against Home Farm in the league the week previous.

It’s also a treble that helped ease the pain of the Leinster Junior Shield defeat suffered by the Saturday side. The Scads second string were edged by Baldoyle United at the quarter-final stage of the cup contest, a Ryan Brennan extra-time finish doing for them at home on Saturday.

Both Sean McDonald and Glenn Byrne were one shy of a Polikoff hat trick as Cabinteely also progressed to the quarters. Both hit a brace while Stephen Hanley and Max Ryan were also on the score sheet in a 6-1 win over Rathoath Harps.

Bobby Horan and Lorcan Byrne both scored for MPFC against Monread FC at the same stage but they still needed penalties to progress to the last eight.

Trinity Donaghmede put their name in the last eight hat in the exact same fashion, winning 5-4 on penalties after their clash with Blessington also finished 2-2, Jay Beasley with both goals for the Premier Sunday side.

Eastwall Bessborough and Balbriggan FC both exited the competition after defeats to Park Celtic and Drogheda respectively, while Mount Merrion knocked out Maynooth and Home Farm moved into the next round at Stella Maris expense.
