This year’s Clondalkin Village Festival is set to begin with a big line-up of free family fun events taking place from June 19 to 28.
Now in its fifth year, the festival continues to go from strength to strength and this year will see more than a week of family entertainment throughout the village.
This year’s programme features street performers, set dancing, a street performer’s competition, a Garda station open day, an animal farm, live music and a fun village cycle, amongst other events.
Local businessman Thyes Kavanagh is part of the organising committee and says that the festival is sure to be a big success.
“The purpose of the festival is to showcase Clondalkin at its best to visitors and residents alike. It is also to create a greater sense of community, giving residents, businesses, clubs and organisations a chance to promote their activities,” he said.
Clondalkin Garda Station’s open day is taking place on Saturday, June 20 from 2 to 5pm. This open day will allow visitors take part in a guided tour around the station and see a display of the many Garda units within the area. There will also be a performance by the Garda Band at the Civic Offices from 2 to 4pm.
In addition, there will also be a prize giving ceremony occurring on the day for the schoolchildren who took part in the art competition entitled “Garda in our Community”.
Street performers will perform throughout the village on Sunday, June 28 as part of the street performer’s competition. These guys love an audience and do not receive a fee from the festival committee so contributions are welcomed.
Roads will be closed to facilitate the festival from 2 to 6pm on June 28. The roads closed will be the main street from the junction at New Road and Tower Road from Tesco to the Round Tower.
There will also be a live webcast of the festival on June 28 from 3 to 5pm, available to view on www.local festicalradio.com.
