Tallaght University Hospital recently announced the Autumn/Winter schedule of public health talks taking place in the local community over the next few months.

The initiative is run in partnership with the Tallaght University Hospital Patient Community Advisory Council (PCAC) and will cover topics such as brain health, managing asthma, caring for the carer, diabetes, and the menopause.

Led by medical practitioners from TUH the talks are free to attend and are open to all members of the public.

Building on the success of the past two years, this series of talks will see nine events taking place between now and the end of November.

Catherine Heaney, Chair of PCAC and Fettercairn Community Health Project Co-Coordinator, said: “Over the past few years we have seen the success of moving public health education into the community. People want to be more informed about their health and the health of family members. The interest in our talks has been phenomenal and we expect that to be repeated with this series. Public awareness around common health conditions is really important in both prevention and treatment.”

Lucy Nugent, Chief Executive of TUH, said: “Our mission and core values at Tallaght University Hospital are about being patient focussed and serving the healthcare needs of the community. ‘People Caring for People’ is at the core of everything we do and this series of public health education talks brings that right to the heart of the community. The broad range of topics to be covered reflects the feedback from the community and our patients. I would also like to commend the commitment of the many healthcare professionals to these talks.”
