The winner of this year’s Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Tidy Schools competition is St Laurence’s Boys National School in Stillorgan.
St Laurence’s – last year’s runners-up – created a prehistoric garden filled with ancient-looking plants and a pizza garden full of plants used in pizza toppings. They also installed a new frog pond in an effort to impress the judges.
The school was judged not only on its cleanliness but also the floral displays, initiatives to support wildlife, litter and waste education, and links with the local community to maintain a clean environment.
Its efforts were rewarded when An Cathaoirleach, Cllr Cormac Devlin, presented the prestigious Tidy Schools Trophy in front of RTE cameras to the school representatives in a ceremony at County Hall last week.
He said: “All the children here are setting an excellent example for everyone in their communities … and it is through them that we can get the anti-litter and environmentally-friendly message out into the community.”
