Residents urged to be vigilant after attacks

RATHFARNHAM residents have been urged to remain vigilant following two separate attacks on women in the area earlier this month.
Additional garda patrols and plain clothes detective units have been deployed in the area as well as helicopter activity.
Gardai confirmed they are investigating the assaults, the first of which occurred at Stocking Well Row on Saturday June 17.
The second attack took place the next day at Stocking Lane at 10:30am.
Both times, women in their 50s were attacked by a male who is reported to be in his mid 30s wearing a grey t-shirt and a black baseball cap.
The woman attacked at Stocking Well Row didn’t require medical treatment and gardai are investigating the situation.
The second attack occurred when the woman was out walking.
She was approached by a man who assaulted her and left her with a number of injuries. The woman was taken to Tallaght Hospital for treatment.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardai at Rathfarmham are investigating an assault which occurred at Stocking Lane, Rathfarnham Dublin 16 at approximately 10.30am on Sunday, June 18 2017.
“A female in her 50s received a number of injuries after she was assaulted at the above location.
“The injured lady was taken to Tallaght Hospital to be treated for her injuries (minor).
“No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.”
Gardai could not confirm if the two attacks were connected.
Local TD John Lahart took to Facebook to reassure residents following the attacks.
He said: “Additional Garda patrols have been mounted in your area to track the perpetrator of the incident at the weekend.
“Additional plain clothes detective units are on duty on both day and night shifts. There was a sighting last night which generated all the helicopter activity.
“I am assured by Inspector Clifford that the Garda, led by a Detecive Inspector from Tallaght Garda, are ‘going above and beyond their duty’ to apprehend the alleged suspect and are treating recent events with the utmost seriousness.”
A crime prevention meeting is being held tonight (Thursday) by Cllr Deire Donovan in Ballyboden GAA Clubhouse at 8.30pm.
