Multiple cars were set alight in the Ballinteer area early last Saturday morning, with Gardai and the fire brigade attending three separate incidents.
The three incidents took place between 5:20am and 6:45am on November 21, with four cars being damaged in the process.
It is not known if these incidents are linked. The fires took place at Marley Court, with one car damaged, at Ballinteer Drive, where two vehicles were set alight, and at The Dale apartment complex near Woodpark estate, with another single vehicle damaged.
In a statement to Dublin Gazette, a spokesperson for An Garda Siochana: “Gardaí from Dundrum in Dublin along with Fire personnel attended three incidents of car fires at the following locations early [on] Saturday 21st December.
“All of the three incidents are being investigated to establish the cause, and a Garda technical examination will be carried out.”
Another car-fire incident was alleged to have occurred next to a recycling bring centre on Stonemason’s Way early on November 22, however An Garda Siochana said they had no record of this incident at time of publication.
There were no injuries reported in any of the fires. On Facebook, infuriated locals questioned how people could do this to others on the weekend before Christmas.
One post on the popular Ballinteer Today page said: “Disgusting animals. What did you get out of doing this? To cause such inconvenience on Christmas week for people. Karma will get you.”
Another person said: “Well done to the parents for raising such animals. Who would do this in the lead up to Christmas?”
