Talented Foxrock native, Anna Kearney, has done Ireland very proud at the Junior Eurovision 2019.
The 13-year-old placed 12th in the singing contest, with hosts Poland winning for the second year in a row.
She gave an outstanding performance of her song Banshee, written with Niall Mooney, Fiachna Ó Braonáin of the Hot House Flowers and Anna Banks, and composed by Cyprian Cassar, Jonas Gladnikoff and Daniel Caruana, which was very well received.
Speaking to Dublin Gazette after the contest, Anna said that she had the “time of her life” and would like to thank everyone who voted for her.
“I had the time of my life performing at the Junior Eurovision in Poland.
“It was amazing walking out on stage and seeing the massive audience. I loved it! I have learnt so much last week, watching the other contestants perform and how the whole production works, from camera, to sound, performing with in ears, all of that. What an amazing opportunity to have had. I want to do it all over again.
“I would like to thank everyone who supported me. The figures came in for the online voting and while we are such a small country, I managed to get 116,000 votes… I was blown away by that.”
Her mum Eileen, who is one of the original dancers from the iconic Riverdance troupe who performed at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, told us that she is very proud of her daughter.
“We really are so proud of Anna. She handled herself extremely well last week in Poland. It was obviously the largest audience that she has ever played to.
“There were 17,000 people in the Arena and millions watching it on TV. To be on that stage by yourself with no backing dancers etc is very difficult as you are so exposed but I think she did a great job,” she said.
You can catch Anna on The Late Late Toy Show tomorrow night. She has a busy schedule ahead performing with Red Hurley and Linda Martin and in Oliver at The National Concert Hall, to name just a few!
You can follow Anna’s journey on her Facebook page Anna Kearney Music.
Anna Kearney is certainly one to watch, and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for this talented local teen!
