Sandyford Business District could double its workforce within seven years if there is ready availability of housing for the employees of the global companies based in the area, according to a new report by economist Jim Power.
The district consists of four business parks, Central, Sandyford, South County and Stillorgan Business Parks and is home to 1,000 companies, 26,000 employees and 5,000 residents.
According to the report: “Sandyford Business District is going from strength to strength. It is making a very strong contribution to the economy of the greater Dublin area and to the national economy in terms of economic activity generated, employment, tax revenues, and hosting some the most innovative and dynamic companies in the world.”
The area is seen as an ‘economic powerhouse’ with potential to become a world-class destination to reside, work and visit.
The report outlines the importance of accommodating the quantum growth of the working population in the area by delivering significant residential capacity as well as increasing the number of local amenities, restaurants, retail and essential public spaces.
The Dún-Laoghaire Rathdown County Development Plan 2022 – 2028 is being finalised at the moment and Sandyford Business District have made a number of submissions to the pre-draft plan outlining their key recommendations.
Sandyford Business District is urging the Council to “commit to carrying out an up to-date study which will determine the planning framework required to deliver Sandyford’s vision of a Mixed-Use District with a focus on sustainable neighbourhood zones which support a commercially viable district where people can work, live, visit and socialise in a 15 Minute City location.”
Some of the companies that currently operate within the area include Google Ireland, Facebook, Dunnes Stores and AIB.
