Minister for Transport, Shane Ross TD has responded to a statement from An Garda Siochana saying that the new Stepaside Garda Station will not be open 24/7.

In a letter to Independent councillor for the area, Michael Fleming, The Gardai Siochana said that the remaining works on the station will be completed by the end of September, Garda staff will be “reallocated from within the DMR East Division” and the station will be open between 7am and 9pm daily.

The re-opening of the station was a demand by Minister Shane Ross when the Independent Alliance agreed to enter government.

Commenting on the news, Cllr. Fleming said that he is “extremely concerned by the observations made by An Garda Siochana.

“This certainly was not what I had envisaged for the Stepaside Station.

“I wanted to see new Gardai in our district and not existing resources being reallocated. I also had hoped that the station would be open on a full time basis and not 7am – 9pm daily.”

Responding to the statement, Minister Ross said: “Following reports that Stepaside Garda Station will only be operating during limited hours, I contacted Garda Commissioner Drew Harris who informed me that the Gardai based in Stepaside will be operating 24/7, once the station is reopened.

The actual opening hours of the public office at the station have not yet been finalised as it is subject to further consideration by local Garda management.
