[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Balbriggan has been selected as host town for RTE’s Operation Transformation this year.

In a new departure for the popular reality weight loss show, it will be broadcast live from the newly-renovated Bremore Castle for its 2019 season.

RTE and Vision Productions will also work with Fingal County Council’s community and sports officers to encourage people in Balbriggan to get active during the eight weeks of filming.

The OT studio will be based inside the castle next January and February and most of the physical challenges will take place in and around the Balbriggan area.

The programme’s producers hope the people of Balbriggan will show the nation what can be achieved with a little community spirit and the support of civic leaders.

The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Anthony Lavin (FG), said: “The 2019 leaders will get a warm welcome and a lot of support from the local community. Balbriggan is a vibrant town and is an ideal host venue for Operation Transformation with its wide range of facilities.”

Presenter Kathryn Thomas was joined by former leaders David Cryan, Felicity Moroney, Mary Diamond, Sarah O’Callaghan and Wayne O’Donnell at Bremore Castle last week.

She issued a call for potential leaders to apply for the 2019 run of the show – as dad-of-two David revealed he’d lost almost four stone and gone down from a 40in waist in his garda sergeant’s uniform to a 34in since signing up for last year’s show.

Fingal County Council chief executive Paul Reid said: “We look forward to working with [OT] over the coming months to produce top-quality programmes using the heritage, sporting and community facilities in the town and surrounding area.

“The decision to select Balbriggan to host the 2019 programme is a positive endorsement for the town and its people.

“The council is working closely with the Balbriggan Leadership Group to develop a socio-economic strategy for the area and over the past few months we have made a lot of progress in our efforts to realise our shared vision for Balbriggan and its community.

“For eight weeks next January and February, Balbriggan will be in the national spotlight and it will be an opportunity to showcase all that it has to offer.”
