Dublin based activist, publican and drag queen Panti Bliss has announced on social media that he married his long-term partner, Anderson Cabrera, yesterday.

The performer shared this special moment in his life on Twitter with the caption, “So… We had a big day today,” followed with heart and smile emojis.

The happy couple wore near-identical blue suits on their big day, and also shared a picture of their family and friends surrounding them on the momentous occasion.

Many big Irish names shared their congratulations on the social network, including presenter Grainne Seoige, actor Rory Cowan, broadcaster Louise McSharry and comedians David O’Doherty and Aisling Bea

Panti Bliss – real name Rory O’Neill – is a predominant member of the LGBTI+ community in Ireland, and was a strong advocate for the marriage equality referendum. He is also open about living with HIV since 1995 and speaks on the importance of prevention.

In 2014, he made a groundbreaking speech called the Noble Call in the Abbey Theatre which has been viewed over one million times online.

The dress from the occasion has been donated to the National Museum of Ireland and will be displayed in the new Rainbow Revolution exhibit.

In 2015, he released a documentary following his work up to the marriage equality referendum called Queen of Ireland.
