Gardai have arrested a man in his early 20’s following a fatal stabbing on O’Connell Street in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

A man was stabbed on upper O’Connell Street at around 1:40am in what Gardai have called a ‘fatal assault’. The victim was taken to the Mater Hospital with apparent stab wounds, and was pronounced dead shortly after.

A male in his late 20s was arrested near the scene this morning, June 11. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are at the scene and the road is currently closed to traffic in both directions with diversions in place.

Just before 11am on Tuesday, Gardai said that O’Connell Street was still closed as they examined the scene.
