An investigation is underway following the death of a woman on Bonham Street in the city centre in the early hours of this morning.
The woman, who is believe to be in her 30s, received a number of injuries at the apartment at approximately 3:40am. It is believed that the woman was stabbed. The victim was then taken to St James’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Gardai have arrested a man in his 30s in connection with the incident, and is currently being detained at Kevin Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
It is believed that the victim and the suspect were known to each other.
The scene remains closed off and a number of traffic diversions are in place. Bridgefoot Street, Usher Island and Usher Street remain closed off to traffic this morning as investigations continue, and a number of traffic diversions are in place.
