A 1916 Battlefield map and walking tour guide of the GPO Moore Street area has been launched by The Moore Street Preservation Trust supported by 1916 relatives.
Taken from knowledge gained over 20 years of guiding tours in the historic area, the map starts at the side door of the GPO where the garrison evacuated from on Friday 28th April 1916. It follows the evacuation route of the volunteers into Henry Place passing the famous White House leading to No 10 Moore Street where the garrison broke into the terrace, eventually occupying the entire block. This became the last headquarters of the Provisional Government.
Key moments in the evacuation story are marked as is the journey of leading participants including James Connolly , Nurse Elizabeth O’Farrell and Padraig Pearse. The map concludes on Parnell Street where Pearse surrendered to Brig Gen Lowe on Saturday 29th April 1916.B i-lingual and free to download, hard copies will be available when Covid Restricitions are lifted.
