A student from Lucan Community College will represent Ireland this week at an online international problem-solving competition.
David Wright from Lucan Community College got fourth place in the 2021 ADAPT All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad (AILO).
This month he has secured a spot on the Irish team of four students at the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL).
Speaking to the Dublin Gazette, David’s proud mum Clare Wright said that he is looking forward to the competition this week.
“I’m so proud of David and his achievement, delighted for him. Wish him and all the team the very best of luck in July and hope they enjoy the experience,” she said.
David said that he is very excited for the opportunity to represent Ireland this week in the competition. “I am happy to have made it this far but it will be exciting to take part in the international competition. I hope that they keep some of the social aspects of the competition given the digital format. Overall, this will be a great experience and I am honoured to get to take part!” he said.
Joining David on the IOL team are Justin Cunningham, who is the overall AILO Champion, from Patrician Secondary School Newbridge, Oscar Despard from Sandford Park School who got second place and Natalia Timulakova from Holy Faith Clontarf who got third place.
AILO is set to run the International competition papers remotely from Dublin City University during this week from 19-23 July.
